General Questions

  • How do I install the panels?
Standard wall hanging hardware is provided with each purchase of an Equinoxer panel, and is also optional for Cloud panels (instead of ceiling hardware). Our quick installation guide is available here: Download Panel Installation Guide
  • Should I get Bass Traps or 3” Wall Panels?
Wall panels work great for treating first reflection points and effectively absorb the upper-bass/lower-mids and above, but bass frequencies are a little harder to tame, and while more ubiquitous in a room (i.e. not as directional as mids and treble), they tend to collect in corners and are best treated there. So wall panels alone won't really treat your lower bass and sub frequencies very much at all. They work at about 50% at 125 Hz, and don't reach full absorption 'til about 250 Hz. That said, they work amazingly from those upper-bass frequencies on up, and will effectively absorb all the directional sound waves relevant to first reflection points, which will help with your spatial imaging. Bass traps really are designed for reaching those lower frequencies and not much else could do that job quite as well, while wall panels at first reflection points broaden the sound stage by removing the most immediate echos from the directional sound waves, which bass traps in corners obviously won't do. So neither can really take the place of the other, but both will effectively serve their own purpose with or without the other.
  • Listening Room General Treatment
Our rule of thumb in a listening room is to treat the first reflection points on the side and rear walls and ceiling and put bass traps in the front corners behind the speakers to control the low end. For the walls, the front wall behind the speakers is less crucial than the other walls due to the directionality of the mids and highs coming from your speakers. The diagram shows first reflection points on the walls. The same concept applies to the ceiling. The ceiling panels are especially recommended if you have no carpeting. Altogether, this will ensure a clean sound in the listening position.
  • Do You Carry Foam?
We don't carry foam as it's not very effective for the price. Rockwool panels have a much higher NRC rating, look better, and are more effective dollar for dollar.
  • Will your panels prevent me from hearing/disturbing my neighbours?
These are acoustic products, so they're designed primarily to clean up the sounds echoing in a room by absorbing it instead of letting it bounce off the walls. If you're trying to stop your neighbors from hearing you that is usually done as a construction job (i.e. extra layers of drywall, insulated walls/ceilings, etc.). However, these do help with that by reducing the overall sound energy before it exits the space.
